Technology consulting for founders and growing businesses

I help founders and business owners make technical decisions they won't regret, and then I help build the result. I'm a working engineer, not a slide-deck consultant. I've led ERP development at SSIPL since 2018, served as CTO of Outclass and founded three ventures of my own. Most people who contact me have one of the problems below.

Who this is for

My best work is with organizations small enough that one experienced person changes the outcome. That usually means:

  • Founders with an idea and a budget, but no technical co-founder
  • Small and medium businesses whose operations have outgrown spreadsheets or an old system
  • Teams with existing software that's getting harder to change

I'm based in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and I've worked with teams in Sri Lanka and the UK.

Problems I help with

"We need to turn an idea into a buildable product."

An idea becomes buildable when you can say who uses it, the few things they must be able to do, and what you'll measure after launch. I help you get there. We scope a first version, cut what can wait, sketch the architecture and estimate the work honestly. You leave with a plan an engineering team can quote against, mine or someone else's.

What you get: a written product scope, a proposed architecture, a phased delivery plan and a list of open risks.

"Our existing software is becoming difficult to maintain."

Every change takes longer than the last one. Releases break things nobody touched. There are modules people avoid. I review the codebase, the data model and how you deploy, then separate the problems that need rebuilding from the ones that need focused cleanup. In my experience the second list is usually longer than the first. You get a prioritized list of changes, not a verdict.

"We need technical direction before committing budget."

Before you hire a team or sign with an agency, get an independent view of the plan. I can review proposals, compare building with buying, check whether a quoted architecture fits the problem, and point out the parts of an estimate that look optimistic. This is usually a short, fixed-scope piece of work.

"We need an experienced technical partner who understands business constraints."

Some projects don't need a consultant who leaves after the report. They need someone senior on the technical side for months: making architecture calls, reviewing work, guiding developers and explaining tradeoffs to non-technical founders in plain terms. Leading technology and development is what I did as CTO at Outclass, and I can take on a similar part-time role.

"We need to modernize workflows or internal systems."

This is the work I've done longest. I've built ERP systems at SSIPL since 2018, and the hard part is rarely the code. It's finding out how the business actually runs, including the exceptions nobody wrote down, and then deciding what to automate, what to standardize and what to leave manual. I can help you map current workflows, choose between configuring an existing product and building custom software, and plan a migration that doesn't stop the business while it happens.

How an engagement works

  1. A first conversation. You tell me what you're working on and what a good outcome looks like. I'll tell you plainly whether I'm the right person.
  2. A short written proposal. Scope, what I'll deliver, roughly how long it should take and how we'll work together. Fees are quoted per engagement.
  3. The work. Usually one of three shapes: a fixed-scope review or plan, a hands-on build, or an ongoing advisory role.
  4. A handover. Decisions and documentation written down, so you aren't dependent on me afterward.

What I don't do

  • I don't resell a particular platform or vendor, and I don't take referral fees for recommending one.
  • I don't build marketing websites or run SEO and ad campaigns.
  • I don't lend my name to a pitch deck without doing real work on the product.
  • I won't recommend a rewrite or a new architecture because it would be more interesting to build.

Start with a short message

Tell me what you're building, where you're stuck and what a good outcome would look like. A few sentences are enough.
